The first frame is a grimace. The homeowner who posts as @lizpacini stands at the door between her house and her garage with a line of text over her head: “Husband: I literally can’t see the garage floor anymore.” Her reply, under “Me,” is a row of emoji that includes a green heart and a bike.
The next shot proves his point. Shelving units, a kids’ water table, a coiled hose, a wagon and a stack of long boards fill the space wall to wall, and she is bent over in flip flops and work gloves dragging the boards out. There is no voiceover in the 67 second video. Four numbered text cards carry it.
“Step 1: Remove 4 years of random stuff.” The garage is emptied to bare concrete, and she wheels out the last thing standing, a small pink bike with training wheels. The old storage is still on the wall at that point: black metal racks holding bikes, extension cords and a black bag. She takes those down too.
“Step 2: Prep the walls.” With the racks gone the wall is marked up and full of old screw holes. She scoops pink spackle out of a tub with a putty knife and fills them, then rolls on a coat of white from a paint can set on the floor. The card over that shot reads, “Paint makes everything better.”
“Step 3: Organize.” She carries in boxes of a rail system in gray and bright green and holds a small yellow handheld device flat against the wall before the rails go up. The first things on are a folding step ladder on a hook and a stick vacuum on its own wall dock. A cordless drill gets a shelf. Two adult bikes go up by their front wheels, side by side, and she climbs the step ladder to set a second row of rails higher on the wall.
By the end of the step the wall holds bike helmets, a wire basket, a paper towel roll on a holder, a leaf blower, a black gear bag, a portable fan on the top shelf, tennis rackets and a broom.
“Step 4: Add some character.” She lays a sheet of paper on the floor, opens a small can of black paint, pencils block letters high on the white wall above the rails and fills them in with an artist’s brush. The motto begins “WORK HARD.”
The video closes on the same wall twice. “BEFORE…” shows the black racks with bikes hung at odd angles and ride on toys parked underneath. “AFTER” shows the rails, everything on them, and a clear floor. Her caption calls this “Part 1 of organizing our garage!!” and adds, “Next up: TOOLS.”
For a garage wall of your own, the order of work is the part to borrow. Empty the wall completely, old hardware included. Her before shot shows racks that were already there and already full. She removed them instead of adding to them, which is what exposed the holes and scuffs that needed fixing.
Patch and paint while nothing is in the way. Filling screw holes and rolling one coat of white took her two short clips, and it is the only point in the project when the whole wall can be reached without moving a bike.
Plan the wall by reach. In her after shot the vacuum, the paper towels and the helmets hang where she can grab them standing on the floor. The fan and the top rail went up from the step ladder. The bikes, the bulkiest items, hang at the end of the wall nearest the garage door.
Keep the floor as the measure. Her husband’s complaint was about the floor, and the after shot shows open concrete in front of the whole wall. Then stop at one wall, as she did. Tools are a separate project in her plan, with a separate video.
