Sometimes the moment that changes everything starts with something completely ordinary. For one TikTok creator, it was a broken refrigerator.

In a viral storytime, TikTok creator @tabs.tabs.tabss explained how a routine attempt to locate an appliance warranty led her to discover that her husband of four years had been living what she describes as a hidden double life.

The story, which has drawn major attention online, details how a single email search quickly unraveled her entire marriage.

A Marriage Already Under Strain

According to the creator, she and her husband had been together for nearly seven years and married for four. They owned a house in Summerville, South Carolina, which they had purchased about a year earlier.

Her husband frequently traveled for work and had recently been moved to Washington state. At the same time, she had just begun an accelerated nursing school program—something she had worked hard to get into.

She said the distance and busy schedules created tension in the relationship.

He reportedly complained that she didn’t have enough time for him and asked her to quit school so she could move with him. She refused, choosing to stay and finish the program she had worked toward for years.

For a while, she said they tried to make things work despite the strain.

Then an unexpected problem at home changed everything.

The Fridge That Started It All

Around Valentine’s Day, her sister came to stay with her for a week so they could celebrate “Galentine’s Day” together.

During that visit, the refrigerator in the house suddenly stopped working.

Because the home and appliances were relatively new, she began searching for warranty paperwork. When she couldn’t find it, she decided to log into her husband’s email to locate the purchase receipt from the retailer.

She says she had access to his email because they were married and had never previously felt the need to look through it.

But when she searched for the receipt, something else appeared.

Dating Apps—and Much More

Among the first emails she saw were notifications confirming that her husband had upgraded accounts on dating apps.

She recalled seeing messages such as “Congratulations on upgrading your premium account” and notifications saying he had matched with or been “super liked” by someone.

She said there were emails connected to multiple platforms, including welcome messages for premium features.

Shocked, she kept scrolling.

That’s when she discovered conversations between her husband and a woman on LinkedIn—someone she actually knew from their time living in Nebraska.

According to the creator, the messages showed him telling the woman that he and his wife were separated and describing her as a “terrible wife.”

He also reportedly bragged about how much money he was making and hinted that he was living comfortably in Washington.

Evidence of a Secret Relationship

As she continued searching the email account, the discoveries became even more unsettling.

She says she found purchase confirmations from retailers like Target, Walmart, and Amazon. Some of the purchases included adult items—including bed restraints designed for a queen-size mattress, which didn’t match the king-size bed she owned at home.

She also found receipts for toys and children’s clothing.

That’s when she realized he appeared to be dating a woman who had kids—and was actively spending time with them.

According to the emails, he had even been researching outings such as museum visits because the woman’s child was interested in bugs.

“He was going above and beyond,” she said.

Betrayal From Someone Else, Too

During the search, she also noticed Venmo transactions sent to someone she believed was one of her closest friends.

Confused about why her husband would be sending that friend money, she decided to call the woman and pretend she already knew what was happening.

During the conversation, the friend admitted that she and the husband had been flirting and discussing the problems in the marriage.

She also revealed that the two had considered flying her out from Nebraska to visit him in Washington.

The friend insisted they ultimately didn’t follow through and claimed it was out of respect for the creator.

The Fallout

After learning the truth, she says the situation escalated quickly.

According to her story, the friend contacted the husband to tell him she had been confronted. Soon after, he allegedly cut off internet service at the house and attempted to stop paying utilities.

She believes this was done in an attempt to disrupt her ability to continue her nursing school coursework.

She also claims he later flew to South Carolina and threatened to force her out of the house and sell the property.

Thankfully, she says her sister stepped in and took her on a trip to Mexico to help her get away from the situation for a while.

Life After the Divorce

The couple eventually divorced, and she says it has now been about a year since the marriage ended.

While they still live in the same city, she rarely sees him anymore.

However, she says she occasionally comes across his name on online discussion pages where women share experiences about dating the same men.

The comments there, she says, sometimes confirm the behavior she discovered during that chaotic moment years earlier—when a broken refrigerator unexpectedly exposed everything.

Online Reactions

Viewers had plenty to say about the unusual way the story unfolded.

“The fridge was a sign,” one commenter wrote.

Another joked about the length of the story, saying it felt like it lasted longer than the marriage itself.

But many viewers focused on the level of betrayal involved—from both the husband and someone the creator believed was a close friend.

For the creator, though, the biggest takeaway remains the moment everything began to unravel: the day a brand-new refrigerator suddenly stopped working and led her to open an email that changed her life.
