Getting your hair done is usually meant to be a relaxing experience. But one woman says a routine salon visit turned into a stressful ordeal after she claims a stylist dramatically altered her hair without her consent.

Stories about bad salon experiences frequently spread online, especially when they involve unexpected chemical treatments. Because hair coloring and bleaching can significantly affect hair health, stylists are generally expected to discuss the process clearly with clients before applying any products.

Now, a TikTok post from @ayan.broomfield is going viral after she shared what she says happened during a recent appointment in Los Angeles.

What Was Supposed to Be a Simple Appointment

In the video, the creator explains that she went to a salon she had visited before while in Los Angeles. Her goal was to get tape-in hair extensions and create a versatile blowout look.

Because her natural hair color is a dark, ashy brown while extension bundles are often darker, she says she asked for something she had done many times before: a semi-permanent gloss. According to her, the gloss is typically applied for only a few minutes and washes out after several shampoos.

She also emphasized that her hair is currently fragile after years of trying to regrow and strengthen it, which is why she wanted to avoid any harsh treatments.

After discussing the plan with the stylist, she says the color process began at the wash station. But instead of the quick gloss treatment she expected, she says the product remained on her hair for roughly 25 to 30 minutes without anyone checking on her.

When Something Started to Feel Wrong

The creator said she first realized something might be wrong when her scalp began to burn while the color was processing.

After the stylist returned and rinsed the product out, she says there was a moment of hesitation before the stylist stepped away and returned with another container of dye.

Confused, she asked why her hair was being colored again. According to the video, the stylist told her that a few spots needed “touching up.”

However, the burning sensation reportedly returned during the second application. When she mentioned the discomfort, the stylist allegedly told her the irritation was due to her scalp being sensitive.

Eventually, the product was rinsed out and she returned to the styling chair—where she finally saw the result in the mirror.

The Salon Responds

The video quickly gained attention online, prompting a response from someone identifying themselves as the owner of the salon.

In a comment under the video, the owner apologized for the situation and said they had reached out to the creator directly. They also said the stylist involved had been suspended while the salon investigates what happened.

Another update in the comments suggested the salon contacted the creator within a day and offered a refund while addressing the incident internally.

Online Reactions

The video sparked a huge debate in the comments, with many viewers expressing shock at the situation.

“I’d sue,” one commenter wrote bluntly, while another said, “Our hair is precious to us. I would be heartbroken.”

Some hairstylists in the comments tried to explain what may have happened technically. One person suggested that developer may have been mixed into the gloss, which can lighten hair even if bleach isn’t used.

Others emphasized that the main issue wasn’t the chemical itself but the lack of communication. “Even if it wasn’t bleach, it’s still not what she asked for,” one commenter wrote.

A few viewers also defended the salon’s response, pointing out that management appeared to address the situation quickly.

Whether the issue was a misunderstanding, a mistake during the coloring process, or something else entirely, the story struck a nerve online—and served as another reminder of how important clear communication can be during salon appointments.
