If you feel as if your weekends are slipping away, just a blur of errands, chores, and obligations, it’s time to regain control. Weekends are meant for relaxation, rejuvenation, and perhaps, indulging in your favorite hobbies. But often, we find ourselves bogged down by tasks we couldn’t accomplish during the week. This post shares ten things I stopped doing that made my weekends easier, more relaxed, and truly refreshing. Take a leaf from my book of experience and transform your weekends into the break you deserve.
1. Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is the thief of time, and it doesn’t spare your weekends either. Pushing tasks to the side until the weekend fills it with chores that could have been done earlier. I started dividing tasks into manageable chunks and tackling them during the week. This prevents the accumulation of tasks over the weekend. Prioritize tasks and try to complete them within a specific timeframe. This habit not only improves productivity but also leaves ample time for relaxation during the weekends.
2. Stop Ignoring Self-Care
Weekends are not just for catching up on work, but also for focusing on self-care. I realized I was ignoring my health and wellness during the week, only to feel burnt out by the weekend. Start including a workout routine during the week. Practice yoga, meditation, or simply go for a walk. Regular exercise and mindful practices reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being. Remember, a healthy mind and body lead to productive and happy weekends.
3. Stop Overcommitting
Overcommitting is a surefire way to exhaust oneself. I used to say ‘yes’ to every plan and ended up spreading myself too thin, leaving no time for relaxation. I learned to say ‘no’ when necessary. It’s important to understand that it’s okay to prioritize your needs over others sometimes. Choose commitments wisely and save some time for yourself. After all, weekends are meant to unwind and relax.
4. Stop Neglecting Hobbies
Hobbies are a great way to recharge and rejuvenate. Earlier, I used to neglect my hobbies, thinking there’s no time. But, I realized hobbies are not a waste of time; instead, they are a way to channel energy positively. Pick a hobby you love and dedicate some time during the weekend to it. Whether it’s painting, reading, gardening, or even cooking, investing time in hobbies enhances creativity and boosts mood.
5. Stop Skipping Meals
Skipping meals is a habit many of us develop due to our busy schedules. But it’s a habit that can drain your energy and affect your health. I started meal planning and prepping during the week. This way, I ensure I have nutritious meals ready for the weekend. Not only does this save time, but it also promotes healthy eating habits.
6. Stop Ignoring Sleep
Sleep is an essential part of well-being. However, due to our hectic schedules, we often compromise on sleep, hoping to catch up during the weekend. I stopped this unhealthy practice and started prioritizing sleep. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule helps in feeling refreshed and energetic. Remember, a well-rested body is more productive and happy.
7. Stop Being Glued to Technology
Technology, while beneficial, can also be a significant time-drainer. I found myself spending most of my weekends scrolling through social media or watching endless TV series. I decided to allocate specific times for technology usage. Limiting screen time and engaging in more physical activities or hobbies can lead to a more fulfilling weekend.
8. Stop Avoiding Housework
Housework, if accumulated, can take up a significant chunk of your weekend. I used to postpone chores and ended up spending my entire weekend cleaning and organizing. I adopted the practice of doing small tasks daily. This way, housework doesn’t pile up, and the weekend remains clutter-free.
9. Stop Wasting Time on Unproductive Activities

Unproductive activities can eat into your precious weekend time. I realized I was spending time on activities that didn’t contribute to my growth or relaxation. I started replacing these activities with productive ones like reading, gardening, or learning a new skill. This not only enhances personal growth but makes weekends more satisfying.
10. Stop Living for the Weekend
Lastly, I stopped living for the weekend. This mindset puts undue pressure on those two days to provide all the relaxation, fun, and productivity that I didn’t get during the week. I started enjoying every day as it comes, incorporating elements of relaxation and productivity into each day. This approach makes every day fulfilling and takes the pressure off the weekend.
