11 Things I Always Do Before Bed for a Tidy Home

Who doesn’t love waking up to a clean, organized home? It’s an empowering way to start the day, making you feel more productive and less stressed. However, keeping your living space tidy doesn’t have to be a monumental task. A few nightly habits can go a long way in maintaining a neat and clean home. In this blog post, I’ll share 11 things I always do before bed that help keep my home tidy.

1. Do a Quick Declutter

Each night, I take about ten minutes to declutter my living spaces. I pick up any items that have migrated out of their designated spaces throughout the day, like remote controls, books, or throw pillows, and put them back where they belong. This quick pick-up session helps prevent clutter from accumulating, making it easier to maintain a clean home.

The trick is to do this regularly, so it becomes a habit. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference this simple routine can make. It’s a small task, but it can have a big impact on the overall tidiness of your home.

2. Wipe Down Kitchen Surfaces

After dinner, I make it a point to wipe down all the kitchen surfaces, including the stove, countertops, and sink. Doing this every night not only helps keep the kitchen clean, it also prevents the buildup of grime and bacteria.

Using a good quality, non-toxic cleaner is a must. It’s not just about aesthetics, it’s also about maintaining a healthy living environment. And remember, a clean kitchen is a happy kitchen!

3. Empty the Dishwasher

I like to run the dishwasher at night when electricity costs are typically lower. Before going to bed, I make sure to empty it. This way, it’s ready for the dirty dishes the next day.

Not only does this keep my kitchen looking clean, but it also saves me time in the morning. And there’s something satisfying about starting the day with all dishes clean and put away.

4. Prep for Breakfast

In the morning, I’m usually rushing to get out the door. So, to save time, I always prep for breakfast the night before. This includes setting out dishes, making overnight oats, or prepping my coffee maker.

This habit not only makes my mornings smoother, but it also helps keep my kitchen clean and organized. Plus, knowing that breakfast is already partly done gives me a little extra time to sleep in!

5. Lay Out Tomorrow’s Outfit

Each night, I lay out the clothes I plan to wear the next day. This means less rushing around in the morning and less mess created by rifling through my closet.

Plus, it’s a great way to ensure your outfits are well thought out and you’re not repeating the same clothes too often. It’s a simple habit but can make a big difference to both your mornings and your wardrobe organization.

6. Clean the Bathroom Sink

Like the kitchen, I give the bathroom sink a quick wipe down before bed. It helps prevent the buildup of soap scum, toothpaste splatters, and other grime.

A clean bathroom sink not only looks better, but it also feels more hygienic. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing worse than waking up to a dirty sink in the morning.

7. Straighten Up the Living Room

Before heading to bed, I take a few minutes to straighten up the living room. This includes fluffing the cushions, folding blankets, and tidying up any books or magazines.

Even these small tasks can make a big difference to the overall appearance of your living room. Plus, it’s always nice to start the day in a tidy, welcoming space.

8. Empty All Trash Cans

I make it a point to empty all trash cans in the house every night. This helps prevent odors and keeps my home looking (and smelling) clean.

It’s also a good opportunity to do a quick inventory of any supplies, like trash bags or cleaning products, that might be running low.

9. Check the Laundry

Before bed, I always check my laundry basket. If it’s full, I’ll start a load so it’s ready to be hung up or put in the dryer in the morning.

This routine helps prevent laundry from piling up and becoming a daunting task. Plus, it’s always nice to have fresh, clean clothes ready to go.

The entryway is the first thing you see when you come home, so I like to keep it tidy. I always make sure shoes are put away, coats are hung up, and any mail or keys are neatly organized.

It’s a small space, but keeping it tidy can make a big difference to the overall feel of your home. Plus, it’s much nicer to be greeted by a clean and organized space when you walk in the door.

11. Make a To-Do List for Tomorrow

Finally, before bed, I always make a to-do list for the next day. This helps me stay organized and ensures I don’t forget any important tasks. Plus, it helps me sleep better knowing I have a plan for the next day.

It’s also a great time to jot down any cleaning tasks that need to be done. This way, I can tackle them first thing in the morning, helping keep my home tidy and organized.
