13 Ways I Keep My Entryway Organized

Like a well-dressed hostess welcoming guests to a party, your home’s entryway sets the tone for the rest of your home. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in the door and the last impression you leave on your guests. But let’s be honest, keeping it organized can be quite a challenge. From keys, shoes, umbrellas, and mail to a whirlwind of other items, it’s easy for this small space to become a dumping ground. So, how do you keep it tidy and welcoming? Here are 13 ways I keep my entryway organized and clutter-free.

1. Utilize Hooks

Hooks serve as a great tool for keeping entryways organized. They are perfect for hanging coats, bags, umbrellas, and keys. By assigning each family member their own hook, personal items are kept in check and easy to find.

Not only are hooks functional, but they can also be a fun design element. There are so many styles and finishes available, you can easily find something to match your aesthetic. For example, I use vintage brass hooks that add a touch of charm to my entryway.

2. Use a Tray for Small Items

A tray is a simple yet effective tool for keeping small items like keys, sunglasses and wallets in order. It assigns a specific spot for these items, reducing the chances of misplacement.

My personal favourite is a ceramic tray with a pop of colour. It not only serves the purpose but also adds a lovely visual element to my entryway. Plus, having a designated spot for these items means I’m not running around the house looking for my keys when I’m already late!

3. Install a Bench

A bench in the entryway serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it provides a space to sit when putting on or removing shoes. Secondly, it can also provide additional storage.

I have a wooden bench with a shoe rack underneath. The bench is comfortable and practical, and the shoe rack keeps shoes tidy and out of the way. It’s a win-win for organization and aesthetics!

4. Use a Mail Organizer

A mail organizer is a must-have in an entryway. It keeps all your mail, bills, and letters neatly organized until you have time to go through them.

I use a wall-mounted mail organizer with separate compartments for incoming and outgoing mail. It’s a simple way to avoid paper clutter and keep track of important documents.

5. Leverage Vertical Space

If your entryway is small, make the most of your vertical space. Wall-mounted shelves or hooks can provide extra storage without taking up floor space.

I’ve installed a couple of floating shelves above the bench in my entryway. They’re great for displaying decorative items and storing things like hats and scarves.

6. Keep a Small Trash Bin

Having a small trash bin in the entryway might seem odd, but it’s incredibly useful. It allows you to immediately toss junk mail, receipts, or other bits of trash that might otherwise clutter the space.

My bin is a small, metal one that fits neatly under the bench. It helps keep the entryway clean and clutter-free.

7. Use Baskets for Storage

Baskets are a versatile storage solution that can be used to store anything from shoes to scarves, gloves, and other small items.

I use a couple of wicker baskets under the bench in my entryway. They’re both functional and stylish, adding a warm, rustic touch to the space.

8. Install a Mirror

A mirror in the entryway is not just for last-minute appearance checks. It also reflects light and makes the space appear larger.

A boot tray is a must-have during rainy and snowy seasons. It keeps wet and dirty shoes contained, protecting your floors.

I have a rubber boot tray by the door. It’s easy to clean, and it saves me from constantly mopping up puddles.

If you have a console table or a bench with drawers in your entryway, drawer organizers can be a game changer. They keep small items like keys, pens, and notepads neatly organized.

I use a couple of plastic drawer organizers in the bench drawers. They’re a great way to keep everything in its place and easy to find.

A key holder is a must-have in any entryway. It provides a designated spot for keys, reducing the chances of misplacement.

I use a small, wooden key holder right next to the door. It’s both functional and decorative, adding a touch of rustic charm to the space.

13. Keep a Doormat
