A Queensland family is looking for answers after a baby was seriously injured at a child care center in a case that has now triggered an official investigation.
The child, a 10-month-old infant, was hurt at the Active Kids Early Learning Laidley 2 Centre in Lockyer Valley on Feb. 24. What makes the story especially unsettling is that, even with the injury serious enough to require medical attention, there still does not appear to be a public explanation for exactly how it happened.

A Normal Day at Child Care Turned Into a Serious Incident for One Family
According to reports, the incident happened at the Laidley 2 location, which is also known as Free Range Kids Laidley 2 Centre.
The baby reportedly suffered a serious injury to a finger, and the family later shared photos with local media. Those images have drawn attention to just how severe the injury was, though officials have still not said what caused it or what sequence of events led up to it.
That gap is what makes the whole case feel so alarming.
When a child is injured in a setting meant to be safe, the first question most people ask is simple: how did this happen? So far, that answer has not been publicly provided.
The Investigation Is Underway, but Key Details Are Still Missing
A spokesperson for the Queensland Department of Education confirmed that the matter is now under investigation.
In a statement, the department said protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in early childhood education and care remains the top priority of the Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority. Officials also confirmed they are aware of a case involving a child who sustained a finger injury that required medical treatment.
But beyond that, very little has been released.
Authorities said they could not provide more information while the investigation is ongoing. That means the public still does not know whether the injury involved equipment, a door, staff supervision, or some other accident entirely.
That lack of detail is likely to keep attention on the case until investigators provide a clearer picture of what happened inside the center that day.
The Center Has Been Part of the Community for Years, Which Makes the Case Even More Jarring
Active Kids Early Learning is described as a privately owned child care provider that has operated in Queensland for more than 15 years.
The business is owned by the Campbell family and presents itself as a community-focused, family-style service rather than a large corporate chain. That local identity may be part of why the incident is hitting so hard. Stories like this feel especially shocking when they happen somewhere parents may have trusted for years.
News.com.au reported that it contacted Active Kids, which operates three centers in the Lockyer Valley, for comment.
For now, though, the central question remains unanswered.
A baby was seriously hurt in child care, the injury was severe enough to prompt medical treatment and a regulatory investigation, and the family still appears to be waiting for the one thing that matters most: a clear explanation of how their child was injured in the first place.
