Mom of Three Slams Kids’ Indoor Play Places Charging $15 Per Child While Banning Outside Snacks and Making Parents Buy Their Goldfish

Taking kids somewhere to burn off energy used to feel like an easy outing for many families. But one mom says indoor play centers are becoming so expensive that the experience no longer feels worth it.

In a TikTok video, creator @megmassey shared her frustration about the rising cost of kids’ play places, particularly policies that prevent parents from bringing their own snacks while charging for food inside. Her rant quickly resonated with parents who say family outings are becoming harder to afford.

The Cost Adds Up Quickly

The mom explained that most play places now charge around $15 per child just to enter.

For families with multiple kids, those fees can pile up fast.

She said she has three children, although one of them is too young to participate in the activities. Even with only two kids able to play, that still means spending around $30 just to get through the door.

In some cases, she said the total has reached about $45 depending on the location and the number of children allowed to participate.

For what’s supposed to be a simple play outing, she feels that’s already pushing the limits of what many families can comfortably afford.

The Snack Rule That Set Her Off

What really frustrates her, however, is a rule many play places enforce: no outside food or drinks.

She argued that once families have already paid for entry, being forced to purchase snacks inside feels excessive.

According to her, parents often bring snacks like Goldfish crackers for their kids, but the venues require families to buy the same types of snacks directly from the facility instead.

“To come here and then have to pay extra to eat your Goldfish when I have my own Goldfish at home?” she said. “It’s absurd.”

Why It Matters for Many Families

The creator pointed out that many parents visiting these places are stay-at-home moms managing a household on a single income.

Because of that, outings like this often have to be carefully planned into the family budget.

She said that under normal circumstances, she might only visit a play place about once a week. But because it was spring break, she had planned to go twice that week to give her kids something fun to do.

Even so, she admitted that if she hadn’t already been planning to meet a friend there, the cost and rules might have convinced her to skip the outing entirely.

Parents Relate to the Frustration

The video struck a chord with viewers, many of whom agreed that family activities seem to be getting more expensive every year.

Some commenters said they were shocked at the price of entry alone, while others said the outside-food rule was the most frustrating part.

One viewer who said they discovered the video on their “For You Page” commented that the pricing at kids’ play places felt “insane.”

Meanwhile, the creator joked in response to the discussion, telling viewers to “take a shot every time I say play place” in the video.

Still, for many parents watching, the story highlighted a larger issue: when even simple outings for kids come with steep prices and extra rules, family fun can quickly turn into a budgeting dilemma.
