Drunk Friend Turns SF Pride Into A Three-Hour Survival Mission, Outs Her On The Train, And Remembers Almost None Of It

Things took a wild turn for one young woman who just wanted to enjoy her first experience at SF Pride. Instead of a day filled with fun and celebration, she found herself in an unexpected three-hour struggle when her friend turned into a drunken liability. It was even more complicated considering they were in an unfamiliar city with no solid plan.

After taking a Caltrain from San Jose, the pair arrived at the Civic Center around 1:50 PM. While the young woman carefully sipped on her drink, her friend indulged in shot after shot of Apple Fireball. With only a couple of hours to enjoy the festivities, they navigated through the vibrant crowds, soaking in the atmosphere. However, as the time to leave approached, the drunken escapades of her friend became increasingly unmanageable.

Despite trying to suggest they leave at 3:30 PM, the friend was having too much fun mingling with new acquaintances. After waiting patiently for fifteen minutes, the young woman reluctantly pulled her out of the Civic Center. That’s when the reality of the situation hit: her friend was far too intoxicated to take care of herself. Navigating a city they barely knew, the responsibility of getting her friend home fell onto her.

As they walked the length of San Francisco towards Caltrain, the situation grew more chaotic. The friend, unable to function rationally, was running off in different directions and even flirting with strangers they encountered. At times, the young woman felt helpless, and tears started streaming down her face out of frustration and concern.

To complicate matters further, the friend was shouting questions at passersby, asking if they identified as lesbians while attempting to engage them in conversation. The young woman feared for both of their safety, especially as they ventured into a rough area of the city filled with boarded-up buildings and numerous homeless individuals. At one point, her friend wanted to join some of them to smoke, completely oblivious to the potential danger.

Desperate to figure out how to get back to Caltrain, the young woman dug deep to keep her friend moving. After what felt like forever, they spotted a couple who were kind enough to point them in the right direction. Grateful for the unexpected assistance, she followed them, hoping they could lead the way.

Finally aboard the train, there was a brief moment of relief. However, the chaos resumed when her friend, who was still drunk and overly affectionate, outed the young woman as a transwoman to the entire car. When asked if they were a couple, the young woman deflected, feeling embarrassed while her friend remained unhelpful, lost in her own world.

As the train ride continued, the young woman took a moment to call her workplace to inform them of her predicament. The clock was ticking, and she was running late. Eventually, her friend fell asleep, giving her a chance to breathe and recuperate from the whirlwind of the day. However, once the ride was over, it became painfully clear that the friend had no recollection of the events that had transpired. The young woman struggled with the fact that she’d be an hour and a half late for work because of her friend’s behavior.

After work, the young woman confronted her friend about everything that had happened. Although the friend was apologetic, she seemed to remember only about twenty percent of the chaotic journey. Now, the young woman was left grappling with how to approach the friendship moving forward. Balancing the desire to maintain a connection with the frustration of having to endure such an ordeal proved difficult.

Reactions on Reddit varied widely. Some people expressed sympathy for the young woman and emphasized the need for accountability from her friend. Others pointed out that the intoxicated friend not only disrupted her outing but also placed both of them in potentially dangerous situations. A few responders suggested setting boundaries and having an open conversation to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In the aftermath of the fiasco, the young woman was left pondering how to convey her feelings about the day without completely shutting down the friendship. Could this experience be a learning opportunity for both of them? Or was it the kind of incident that could permanently alter their dynamic? The uncomfortable reality is that navigating friendships can be as chaotic as any train ride gone wrong.
