The heaters were sold online at Amazon, Govee.com, through the Govee Home app and on TikTok Shop between September 2021 and September 2024, for $30 to $150 — right as households are starting to dig space heaters back out for fall.
The trouble traces to the heaters’ wireless control features, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay’s reporting on the recall, which can malfunction badly enough that the units fail UL 1278, the voluntary safety standard space heaters are supposed to meet before they ever reach a living room. When that control system misfires, the heater can keep drawing power well past the point it should shut off, and that’s when things start to melt, smoke or catch.
